POEM OF ST MARY'S

…The tall gentleman bought some land

In a fine position in the uplands

In Glyn Neath, beautiful in appearance

To be found in Glyn Corrwg parish

His way is long, through a vale of fragrant bushes

To journey to church

with everlasting winters

when the days grow cold,

only the strong, the stout in faith,

the mighty lion can go,

from Glyn Neath joyful and excellent

to Glyn Corrwg very prominent

Despite this George must go to worship

He could not be an illustrious man

Or fluent without frequenting the church

He makes request to you in eloquent language

The chisel of a wise messenger to work

A chapel on his parcel of land

Of ease and confident flight

A gracious feast for this man and his country

The benefits of burial and baptism…
